Sheldon Mackenzie Munro, husband, father, grandfather, local artist, glider pilot, storm enthusiast, and friend to all, died July 25th after a brief illness. He was 81.
Sheldon was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 20, 1928, the only child of Alexander & Davina Munro. As a child, he grew up living in a variety of interesting places, including a banana plantation in Costa Rica.
Up until his illness, Sheldon “Skip” drove a van for Prime Life in Carmel for the “old people,” ill and homebound. He loved his clients and they loved him.
Sheldon served as a medic in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following, he received a degree on the GI Bill in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University. He had a long career as an art director in the world of advertising.
Sheldon is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Ruth, his daughter Tracie (John) Martin of Fort Wayne, John (Michele) Munro of Hilton Head Island, SC and Lynn (Andy) Warner of Rocky Mount, NC. He has six grandchildren, Aly, Madeline, Mackenzie, Haley, Grace and Charlie. “He was more than a Popop to us.”
“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings…put out my hand and touched the face of God.”
