Alice Ruth Rowen Easley, 81, passed away at home in Carmel, IN, on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 after an extended illness. All four of her children were blessed to have the opportunity to be with her in her final days and hours and were comforted that she went peacefully and painlessly. Alice was born on October 23, 1928 in Cincinnati, OH to Orval Paul Rowen and Ada Ruth Clark Rowen. At an early age her family moved to DeMotte, IN, where Alice grew up and graduated from DeMotte HS. She went on to attend Purdue University, where she met her future husband of fifty-two years, Jack Robert Easley. They married on June 12, 1948. They both had long, happy and productive lives. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a dear sister, Barbara, and by Jack, who died in 2000. Alice is survived by many loving family members and friends: her much-loved brother Jim and wife Joyce, all of her children, Kay Beck, Stephen Easley and wife Sue, Mark Easley and wife Maria, and Nan Turner. She had five grandchildren and their spouses and children whom she loved dearly: Michael Beck and wife Amy and their two boys Marcus and Isaiah, Ellyn and Nathan Riley; Elysa and Jeremy Wright, Mark Easley Jr., and Kate Turner. She had a host of excellent nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and supporters from the community, the civic groups she belonged to, and her church. Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was an avid golfer, accomplished professional floral designer and crafter, bookkeeper, long-time newspaper columnist, published author of two books, and an active church and community volunteer. She will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be on Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel, IN, with a memorial service to follow immediately afterward. A private interment with the immediate family will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery. For those who wish to, donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th Street, Carmel, IN 46033
