Ruth A. Koerselman, age 89, of Carmel, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010. Born February 25, 1921, in Sheldon, Iowa, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Margaret (Woods) Matson who preceded her in death. Her husband, Willis Koerselman, step mother, Marie Matson and her good friend, Gene Pater also preceded her in death.
Ruth retired from Farm Bureau Insurance as a secretary in the Hamilton County, Carmel office. She was a graduate of both the local high school and college in Sheldon. She spent several years teaching at Sheldon Elementary before deciding to try her hand in the business world. After working at the telephone company for several years, she married Willis in December of 1945. Once the children came along, Ruth stayed at home and busied herself with all the duties of motherhood. She also was a member of Coral Chapter #41 OES.
Survivors include her son, Daniel (Robyn) Koerselman; her daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Kohl; and seven grandchildren: Cole, Jayson, and Ryan Koerselman; Cynthia and Sarah Chapman; Anna Ruth and Kristin Kohl.
Friends may call Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 5 to 8 pm at the Leppert Morutary, Smith Carmel Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:30 am at the Carmel Cemetery.
