June 7 marked the passing of a remarkable woman, Marcia Gradison. Marcia was born on October 22, 1940 in Waukegan, IL to James and Helen (Lohman) Davis. She lived a truly full and fruitful life. Her accomplishments are legendary. She was known as a gifted equestrian, outstanding golfer and a consummate chef. She always was acclaimed to be at the top of whatever the game was.
She met her husband, Dave, in Puerto Rico in 1961 and married him a year later. It was a fairytale meeting and marriage. Together she and Dave had two sons, Mark and Joe.
She was a many time Club Champion at Hillcrest CC in Indianapolis and is an original inductee into the Hillcrest Golf Hall of Fame. Marcia's equestrian endeavors have included her World Equestrian Championship for twelve year olds in 1953, years of competition in the American Saddlebred Association horseshows, and was most proud of her making her old friend and favorite horse, Sazerac, aka known as Tuffy, a Saddlebred Champion. There are many horseback riding aficionados who believed that she was indeed the very best ladies' amateur rider around anywhere.
Marcia's food preparation exploits are almost legendary for an amateur chef. No one would turn down an invitation for dinner at her house. In her younger years, she would host parties for as many as 100 guests. She fostered a vast interest about cooking with Mark and Joe and they will continue some of her flair in their own recipes.
Marcia was on the Indianapolis Charity Horseshow Board, a member of The American Saddlebred Association and Hillcrest CC member. She chaired the Ladies Golf Group, chaired many golf tournaments and competed in Indianapolis City and OLGA golf events. She and her husband, Dave, were active in Young Presidents Organization and World Presidents Organization meetings and activities for years.
She is survived by her husband, her sister Diane (William) McGonicle, her sons Mark; and his wife Maggie, and Joe, as well as her grandchildren Sarah, Brian and Brooks.
Private family services will be held. You are invited to visit www.leppertmortuary.com where you may share a personal memory of Marcia, sign the guest or make a memorial contribution to American Saddlebred Association, Hill Crest Country Club Historical Foundation or Indiana Cancer Research Foundation.
