Robert J. Healey, M.D. 85, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010 in Indianapolis. He was born January 6, 1925, to Jack and Clara (McQuaid) Healey of Indianapolis. After the untimely death of both parents, his grandparents, Mary and John McQuaid, raised him.
Doctor Healey is survived by his wife Ellen Wagner Healey; seven children, Patrick Healey, Maura Davenport, Anne Healey, Ellen Miller, Lenore Schultz, Louise Henderson and Bob Healey; daughter-in-law, Diane Healey and sons-in-law, Kenneth Davenport, Bill Fenner, Stephen Miller and Brian Henderson. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Sarah Healey, Erin Healey, Daniel Healey, Maura Davenport, her husband Justin Edge, Kyle Davenport, Kelsey Davenport, Keith Davenport, Lauren Fenner, Xin Fenner, Terry Miller, Katie Miller, Patrick Miller, Clara Schultz, Glennis Henderson, Allison Henderson and Kristen Henderson; his niece, Monica Truax, her husband Richard Hardy and his second cousin, John Healey. His sister, Mary Louise Smith preceded him in death.
Enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age seventeen, he served four years, attaining the rank of Pharmacist Mate First Class. He graduated from Indiana University and St. Louis University School of Medicine with the assistance of the GI Bill. For forty-four years Doctor Healey practiced medicine in Indianapolis, specializing in Internal Medicine. During this time he served on the faculty of Indiana University School of Medicine and was a member of the medical staff at St. Vincent Hospital. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and in 2001 he received St. Vincent Hospital’s Distinguished Physician Award.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th Street. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5692 Central Avenue, on Wednesday, March 31 at 10:00 am. Burial will be private.
