"Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries." This was Betty Parente's favorite Song. Like the lyrics, throughout her life she shared laughter and love with all those she touched. On January 8th, 2018, Betty peacefully crossed into spirit, Sunday surrounded by those who loved her. She died after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease, but will be remembered for how she lived.
Born in Wanamaker, Indiana in 1934, Betty married her husband, John, in 1955. Over the course of their nearly 63 year marriage, family was the cornerstone of Betty's life. Together with John, they raised three children (Rick, Kim and Chris) and both were joyously involved and took great pride in the lives of their Grandchildren. She was among the first wave of "Working Moms," and spent many years as the activities treasurer for West Lafayette Schools.
Her circle of friends also brought many cherished memories. From the countless camping trips, to the weekly card games, to the "game day" Boilermaker" gatherings, Betty was always up for a party and an adventure.
Betty loved travel, and spent much of her free time exploring the coasts, the forests, and the cities of this great land. She had a passion for gardening, and was often found in her yard, carefully tending to her landscaping, plants and flowers.
Betty is preceded in death by her Mother and Father (John and Mary Hurley) and three of her grandchildren (Elizabeth, Emma and her beloved Nick). She is survived by her husband, John, daughter Kim (Tim) Monger, Sons, Rick (Nan) Parente, and Chris Parente; three grandchildren, Angie & Addy Monger, and Scott (Julie) Parente, and sister Joan Christoff.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Betty's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of America. And as the song concludes, may we each "Live and love and laugh at it all."
Family wishes to keep the services private.
May the family's cherished memories and 'God's strength' bring comfort and peace at this time of loss. Psalms 46:1
I watch Chris on the Everyday sow here in Denver and remember Chris talking about his Mom. Chris I know your Mom is having fun up there with My Dad and my partner Rogers parents. May she rest in peace and Chris for your family Big Big Angel Hugs from Roger and I.
I have known Chris for many years when he lived in Louisville, he often spoke of his mom and how much he loved her , we have helped each other through many things through the years and I hope he knows I am here for him now. I was a caregiver to my mom who also had Alzheimer's it is a dreadful
Disease and we can only pray for a cure soon. My heart goes out to the Parentae family I will be sending many prayers and healing energy your way as you mourn your beautiful Betty ! With much love, Delcina Todd and family
Chris, Your Mom sounds lovely. I watch you on tv and love to follow you on fb. Your dad is a hoot! May your mom sing with the angels!
Betty was absolutely beautiful inside and out. What a positive introduction for me to meet the Parentes right away, as a new employee of the West Lafayette Community School Corporation, where I remain today almost 40 years later. My heart goes out to the family, as I know they will miss her quick smile and sparkly eyes, as we all will.
Although I do not know your family personally, I have enjoyed watching Chris on TV here in Denver. Whenever he posts about his family, especially his parents, you can feel his genuine love for you shining through. I come from a family just like yours, and we are all very fortunate to have a family that embraces and loves us. I am very sorry for your loss, but as you know, her disease is very difficult and she is in a much better place now. Love and prayers, Kris Cozort
So sorry. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON LOVE YOU ALL KATHY MARTIN HICKS
Not knowing Mrs.Parente, but often watching her son Chris on television, hearing stories of his childhood and how he holds his family close to heart and in the highest esteem speaks loudly of the love this family has for each other, with the mention of mom his eyes hold a special light. God bless this family on the loss of obviously one of Gods greatest rays of sunshine in the lives of so many she touched. Even those of whom never had the pleasure but who fell her love and light through her son. Rest and fly high Mrs. Parente.
I feel I know her cause I love Chris and I used to watch him on the morning show for many years when I lived in Colorado. This break my heart, my condolences to the Parente family all the way from El Paso Texas. Stay strong.
Mother's are so precious. Their love is unlike anything else. Your mom was so kind and sweet to everyone. I remember so many times at the Parente home during high school. Much love and laughter abound. Rest in peace sweet lady. Hugs to your family. Beanie Crowe-Wooten
