Joseph "Steve" Doll, 71, of Crawfordsville, passed away November 8, 2017. Steve was born May 27, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN. A Vietnam Veteran of the US Army 101st Airborne in 1964-1965, Steve was awarded and recognized with the following:
Vietnam Service and Campaign Medal
National Defense Service Medal
Combat Infantryman's Badge
Good Conduct Medal
Also serving in the 82nd Airborne, he was honorably discharged in 1970. A Retired Indianapolis Firefighter, Steve credited the Fire Department as the only job he ever loved prior to coaching. Following his retirement, he dedicated his life to his family, friends and sports, coaching Soccer, Baseball, Basketball and Football at the club and high school levels. Steve was one of the founding members of the Putnam County Youth Soccer Association. He was also a member of the Eagles, American Legion, VFW, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and Abate of Indiana. Steve is survived by Wife of 45 years Susie, Son Andy (Mandi and Brayden), Daughter Christie (Claude Hamblin), and Four Sisters (Ginger, Vicki, Sandy, and Kandi).
The family has requested that those wishing to provide gift that they be reserved for donations in Steve's honor at the charities of his choice: USO, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Joseph's Indian School Lakota (Sioux) Children - Chamberlain, SD (stjo.org/dreams) and/or Toys for Tots. Toys can be collected on-site at the memorial calling.
A memorial calling will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 12-4 PM with military honors at 12:30 PM in Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel, 900 N. Rangeline Rd, Carmel, IN.
